MVFBLA is a chapter of Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc., a nation-wide, nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the community and spreading the benefits of business and professional knowledge to students. Established thirty-two years ago and one of the earlier clubs on campus, the Monta Vista High School chapter of FBLA claims about 5% of the student body as its membership. Members leave high school prepared for the corporate world armed with the knowledge and experiences they have acquired through FBLA. MVFBLA holds meetings each Thursday in P6 during lunch. During these meetings we may have workshops, guest speakers, or just general information about upcoming events and conferences. We are considered one of the "powerhouse" chapters in FBLA, securing second place in the sweepstakes competition at the 2008 National Leadership Conference. Members are well-known for their dedication and seriousness with their respective competitions, which can be definitely seen weeks before the conferences. Aside from competitive success, MVFBLA has one of the largest and most active chapters in California and has consistently seen the election of several section and state officers. Graduates of MVFBLA have gone on to study at prestigious schools, most recently including USC, Wharton, Brown, and UC Berkely. By participating in MVFBLA and FBLA-sponsored activities, students are able to develop skills essential to their future in the career world. The chief activities MVFBLA members participate in include conferences, meeting workshops, business tours, and socials. Conferences provide students the possibility to attend professional workshops, to learn through competitions, as well as to develop social networking skills as they meet people across the country. Meeting workshops teach students practical skills, such as how to write a résumé and how to prepare for a job interview. Business tours allow an exclusive peek into specific jobs and companies students may be interested in joining in the near future. Lastly, socials give a chance for students to build connections and improve their networking skills. To learn more about Monta Vista FBLA, visit the links to your left.
